Summary

A cold shower versus one that never gets fully hot sparks an unexpectedly intense debate between Kareem and a subway rider who refuses to compromise on shower temperature. The conversation spirals from lukewarm water into therapy-speak territory, with the stranger insisting Kareem is "setting yourself up to fail" by choosing a shower that'll never deliver warmth. Kareem fires back that he'd rather embrace a freezing fate than chase something impossible. Then it gets personal. Both reveal they're first-generation Americans, but they've landed on opposite sides of the temperature divide. The rider sees cold showers as healing generational trauma, a pivot toward accepting reality. Kareem? He came to America for hot water, dammit, and he's not going back to the cold. It's philosophical. It's absurd. It's about showers.

So, what's your take? A cold shower is better than one that never gets fully hot. 100% disagree. Really? You want to take a cold shower? If you're in one of those showers that like it gets warm and you think it's going to get there, but it never quite gets there, even when you turn it up the whole way, why would you put yourself into a game that you know you're never going to win? You'll never ever achieve that goal. Wouldn't you rather change course and go a different way? Take a freezing cold shower and just embrace that for what it is.

Karine, I don't like cold showers and I wouldn't take them. I'm just saying I would rather just take the freezing cold shower because I want to embrace my fate. I want to embrace something that's actually possible for me. There are a lot of things I can compromise on. One thing I'm not willing to compromise on is the temperature in the shower.

But what if it's one of those showers that never gets fully hot? I will take a warm shower.

You'll take the lukewarm over cold. Yes, cream. I'm worried you're not going for what you really want in life. Sometimes you don't get what you want in life. That's what life's all about. I think from a therapeutic point of view, you are setting yourself up to fail. Why would you put yourself in a position to fail? You know, the shower is not going to give you what you want in life. It's not going to make you feel warm. You want to feel warm. You want to feel—you want your senses to be cleansed. You want your aura to be cleansed.

So, you're saying I have to pivot. You have to pivot. I'm first generation American. I—I came here for a better life.

I'm first generation American as well, and I came here for a better life, and I will have my hot water. You're not going. You'll never take me back. I came from the cold water. I'm running from that, and I'm not—I'm not dealing with that anymore.

So, you'd rather just go in the river? Yeah. I—I'm healing my generational trauma.

Cheers to that. Cheers.
