Being late as a complimentHotel sustainability guilt-tripping and towel change requestsLuxury hotel standards versus budget hotel expectations

I'm sick of hotels guilt shaming me

Summary

A straphanger unleashes fury on hotels that guilt trip guests about towel changes and water conservation. She's not buying the eco-friendly messaging. Her theory? Hotels are using environmentalism as cover to cut costs and fire staff. "I'm on a honeymoon. I don't want to have to think about penguins," she tells Kareem after describing a hotel that asked her to keep showers under 10 minutes. The whole point of hotels is indulgence, she argues, and she's certain luxury properties like Eden Rock aren't asking Kate Moss to reuse towels. The conversation veers into her other hot take: being late is actually a compliment. Kareem disagrees, having just waited through 17 espressos for her to show up.

So, what's your take? I'm sick of hotels guilt shaving me. 100% agree. I mean, the whole point of going to a hotel is that you get to regressful is that you leave the chores at home and you spend 24 hours in a room where you're completely looked after. Like, you physically don't have to leave the hotel room. You get your food brought to you. You lie in bed all day. You watch television from your bed. You don't have to do anything. And nowadays, they have these little pieces of paper, the cards, and they say, "Do you really need your towels changed?" And it's like, of course, I need my towels changed. I'm wet. I'm wet. I am so wet. I don't like the fact that they're trying to take the eco movement and make Deborah and Barry feel guilty for their dirty weekend. I'm like, bro, you probably own a yacht. Just be honest. You want us to stop using room service so you can fire people, have less cleaners, and save money?

You know, when I check into a hotel, I am very—I'm like I'm rich. Yeah. I guarantee they're not doing that to people who are like staying in Eden Rock. Do you meet Kate Moss Eden Rock?

Hey, do you really want us to change your sheets? No, the rich people hotels. Rich people hotels, they don't say be conscientious of the towels. They say do whatever the you want. I went to a hotel recently and it said try to take 10-minute showers or less.

Oh, you can't. I swear to God. I went to a hotel. This is the [bleep] I'm talking about. I went to a hotel. They said they had a little piece of paper. It said we're trying to preserve water. Oh my God. Make your showers 10 minutes or less. The way they make us take responsibility for saving the world. It's like I'm on a honeymoon. I don't want to have to think about penguins.

What else you got to say? What are the hot text? What else you feel passionate about? This is where you start get the toxic bit of me coming out, isn't it?

I know what you want to say. You got to talk about being late. I was very late. I think that being late is a compliment.

I think it the wrong way. You were late to this shoot. And guess what? I didn't take it as a compliment. Yeah, but I look nice. That doesn't erase the fact that I had to sit there and drink 17 espressos waiting for you.

No, it's good feel good. Everyone else has to adapt to my toxic behavior. That that is my take. You are quite toxic. Is that true?

Yes. Girls with pink hair. Toxic. Okay.
