Summary

A straphanger makes the case that we should absolutely cheer when planes land, and Kareem's fully on board. Flight is a miracle, they argue, so why treat it like business as usual? We're sitting in a giant metal bird traveling at ridiculous speeds. Broadway shows get standing ovations and they don't even leave the ground. The conversation spirals into thanking pilots more enthusiastically, maybe even slipping them $100 to ensure they're in a good mood. Life is hard. Show the pilot a picture of their own kid, compliment their looks, suggest grabbing a drink when you land. Ghost them later if needed. Whatever it takes to celebrate being alive and airborne.

So, what's your take? It's okay to applaud or cheer when your plane lands.

100% agree. We all need a little joy in this world. We just witnessed a miracle.

The miracle of flight. I don't know why you don't cheer. I don't—I think it's crazier to just be like, "Okay, business as usual." I think we should do a standing ovation.

We should. We're standing up at the end of a Broadway show. We haven't even left Earth. We were just in a giant metal bird, right? Going Lord knows how fast.

David Blaine type. What I love about flight too is like in the same day you could be in one country in another country. Isn't that wild? Time travel. I could be in Japan in the same day.

I know. Hello, I'm in the future.

Do you know how that works?

So do you do it? Yes. This is me.

So you're saying we should cheer like it's like your favorite team has won a sport. I never judge anyone for being genuinely stoked. Like that's why I'm for like the live, laugh, love signs. Oh, I love live, laugh, love, love, love—because it's like life is so hard. You need every encouragement as much as you can.

And you know what? I feel like when you get a—like a—a surgery— You thank the doctor and you're like, "Thank you so much for saving my son's life."

Yes. But when you walk off the plane, the pilot's standing there waiting to be thanked and everyone just goes, "This is me. Thank you so much. Hope you have a great day."

I usually shake their hand. Yeah. Thank you.

Thank you for getting me here. Yes. I wish I could talk to the pilot before.

Yeah. I would just give them $100— Right? To be like, "Hey, isn't it a great day to keep living?" You know, things like that. Just because I get afraid that, you know—you know, some—hey, pilots are people, too.

Sometimes they decide that they want to crash a plane into a mountain. That's what I mean. So yes, $100.

$100 can go a long way. "Hey, isn't life so beautiful?" Show the pilot a picture of their own kid.

Yes. Yeah. Don't forget about him.

He's like, "How did you get a picture?" Compliment their looks. "Oh, you're—you're so hot." We should grab a drink when we land.

Yes. But then you might give the wrong idea. No, no, that's fine. As long as you make it—and then you just ghost kind of.

This is great. We need to do this. Thank you so much. One last cheer.
