Summer is the worst season. @AlexandraRobinson

Summary

A straphanger makes the contrarian case that summer is actually the worst season, and her secret weapon is soup. The entire food group goes out of commission for three months, she argues to Kareem, while fall, spring, and even winter allow for proper cozy vibes. She's obsessed with hygge, that Scandinavian concept of warmth and coziness that helps make those countries the happiest in the world. The debate gets heated. Kareem pushes back hard on the idea that winter beats summer, but she's got receipts: fashion's better in colder months, New York City summers are miserable, and she'd rather cozy up to a metal radiator than a plastic AC unit. There's one caveat to her take. Summer '16 was different. They both remember it fondly, though the transcript cuts off before we learn why that particular summer earned an exception.

So, what's your take? Summer is the worst season.

100% disagree. Summer is amazing. That's what most people say, and I get it, and it is. I love all the seasons, but to me, there's a ranking. Okay. It goes fall, which I think we all can agree on.

Okay, fine. Spring, winter, summer.

You think winter is better than summer? Yes.

That's no, that is a big problem.

Let's talk about soups. I would love to talk about soups.

An entire food group essentially out of commission for the entire season of summer. Whereas every other season of the year, we could properly enjoy soups for our liking. Okay. So, you're saying the soup makes summer null and void.

It's not just the soup. My take really revolves around this concept called hygge. It's a Scandinavian idea of like creating a super warm and inviting atmosphere. And it obviously takes place during the winter and in these typically colder countries. And the Scandinavian countries are also among the happiest in the entire world. They're inside, they're cozy.

Yes. I will say a place with no seasons, such as Miami, those people are not very cozy. No, they're not very cozy.

I grew up in South Florida. Oh, you're from there.

It was 95 and humid pretty much all year round. It was awful. The only argument people really have for summer being the best is that the vibes are up. Summer vibe is the best vibe.

But I'm a cozy vibe— Right now. You're vibing.

Yes. The hoodie with the jacket combo, that's fire. Fashion's better in the winter. I see your point and I love it. I'm from Minnesota and that's why I think I didn't like winter 'cause there it's nine months.

It's a pregnancy winter. I wasn't feeling that. But here in New York City, it's not that bad.

But you know what is bad in New York City? The summers. I don't want to be cozy next to my plastic air conditioning unit. I'd rather be cozied up next to my metal radiator. She got a point.

There is one exception to the rule. Summer '16. What happened in Summer '16?

Thank you. You were there.

I was there. I was there. Was I there?

I don't, I don't know.
